New Skilled Trades Program Prepares Individuals for Entry-Level Electrical Service Technician Positions
(FAYETTEVILLE, NC) September 28, 2023 – According to the Future of Skilled Trades Report from home services provider Thumbtack, 47 percent of young people are interested in pursuing a career in the trades citing a more flexible schedule, a faster and less expensive educational program with less debt, a quicker entry into the workforce and the ability to be your own boss as reasons for the optimistic outlook. Recognizing the growing interest of young people in the skilled trades, Miller-Motte College-Fayetteville has launched a comprehensive Electrical training program that helps prepare students for entry-level electrical service technician positions.
“It is important to have qualified electrical professionals who are well-trained to get the job done safely and with attention to detail who can apply their skills in residential and commercial applications,” said Torris Ferguson, Executive Director of MMC in Fayetteville, part of Ancora’s network of private postsecondary schools and a leading workforce training provider. “Miller-Motte’s new Electrical training program will help prepare students to work in a career field that is not going away anytime soon. Skilled trade workers like electrical technicians continue to be an important part in the growth of our economy in North Carolina and across the U.S.”
Miller-Motte’s Electrical program combines classroom-style education with hands-on learning to help prepare students for a career in the Electrical field. Upon graduation, students should be prepared for entry level positions in the electrical field such as Electrical and Electronics Installers and Repairers capable of troubleshooting, servicing and repairing residential and commercial electrical systems. Students will have the opportunity to learn the following skills:
- Equipment and shop safety procedures
- Voltage measurement using an Ohmmeter
- NEC codebook
- Conduit bending and pipe threading
- Installing conductors
- Raceway systems
- Pull boxes
- Electric Motors
- Troubleshooting electrical circuits
Enrollment for MMC’s Electrical training program is on a rolling basis and the program can be completed in 10 months. Classes start October 16, 2023.
*Although the information taught in this program may be helpful, it does not prepare students to become a licensed electrician.
