Miller-Motte College Chattanooga Launches Electrical Training Program Preparing Individuals for Entry-Level Electrical Service Technician Positions

(CHATTANOOGA, TN) November 21, 2022A May 2022 ECMC Group national survey of high school students shows nearly one-third of teens would prefer their post-high school education to last two years or less and most would prefer learning hands-on skills either in a lab/classroom or through on-the-job experiences. Recognizing this trend in education, Miller-Motte College-Chattanooga has launched a comprehensive Electrical training program that helps prepare students for entry-level positions in the residential and commercial Electrical field.

“For residential and commercial applications, it is important to have qualified electrical professionals who have training to get the job done safely and with attention to detail,” said Jay Frank, Executive Director of MMC-Chattanooga, part of Ancora Education network of private postsecondary schools and a leading workforce education provider. “Miller-Motte’s new Electrical training program will help prepare students to work in a career field that has been around for a long time. If the pandemic has proven anything, skilled trade workers are an important part in the growth of our economy.”

Miller-Motte’s Electrical program combines classroom-style education with hands-on learning to help prepare students for a career in the Electrical field. Upon graduation, students should be prepared for entry level positions in the electrical field such as Electrical and Electronics Installers and Repairers capable of troubleshooting, servicing and repairing residential and commercial electrical systems. Students will have the opportunity to learn the following skills:

  • Equipment and shop safety procedures
  • Voltage measurement using an Ohmmeter
  • NEC codebook
  • Conduit bending and pipe threading
  • Installing conductors
  • Raceway systems
  • Pull boxes
  • Electric Motors
  • Troubleshooting electrical circuits

Enrollment for MMC’s Electrical training program is on a rolling basis and the program can be completed in 10 months.

** Although the information taught in this program may be helpful, it does not prepare students to become a licensed electrician.
