CHARLESTON, SC – (OCTOBER 15, 2025) — Ancora Education, a leading workforce solutions provider, is pleased to report their newest training center, Miller-Motte Driving Institute (MMDI), has two milestones to announce. First, the completion of over 100 students and the second, to share that MMDI is now a third-party testing site.
For more than ten years, Ancora/Miller-Motte College (MMC) has provided CDL training to the Charleston area, partnering with hundreds of South Carolinians who desire to enter the trucking industry. MMDI opened in Summer 2024 as a stand-alone provider of CDL training.
“We are very proud of the 108 students who have graduated from our program since we opened,” said Charles Redden, Business Development Manager for MMDI. “We are committed to growing opportunities for new students, and furthering connections for future program completers making their way to the trucking industry.”
MMDI provides on-site CDL: Class A Tractor Trailer and CDL: Class B Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) to meet the projected growth for truck drivers in America. MMDI offers flexible training schedules, with day (four weeks), evening (eight weeks), and weekend (eight weeks) classes available, allowing students to train for their CDL through a program that meets South Carolina DMV and DOT requirements.
In addition to helping their own students succeed, MMDI is now approved to administer the CDL Skills Tests as a third-party testing site. This offering opens up availability for students and drivers from other schools or employers who have not yet passed their Skills Test and would like to complete it outside of the DMV. Professional drivers who need to re-obtain their CDL due to it expiring can also test at MMDI. Drivers in South Carolina must renew their CDL every eight years.
To set an appointment for a CDL Skills Test at MMDI, drivers must have completed ELDT from a provider listed on the Training Provider Registry, have their training records submitted to the Registry, possess a valid CDL learner’s permit, and have their license cleared by SC Department of Motor Vehicles. Appointments are set on a first come, first served basis. Weekend slots are available and scheduling must be at least five days before the requested exam date. MMDI may be able to supply vehicles for testing. Contact 843-822-6145 for more details.
Ancora operates over 200 CDL programs at locations across the United States including Miller-Motte College, South Texas Vocational Technical Institute, Arizona Automotive Institute, and Berks Technical Institute, as well as through partnerships with community colleges, corporate businesses, and local governments. The search for American truck drivers remains strong as there is expected to be 237,600 heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers openings each year, on average, from 2024-2034. MMDI is committed to providing high-quality training and student experiences to help meet those needs.
“Ancora’s long term goal is to help fill the need for drivers to keep America moving,” says Jeffery Burkhardt, Senior Director of CDL Operations at Ancora. “We partner with nationwide and local carriers/employers that are eager to hire our graduates.”
Classes start at Miller-Motte Driving Institute every four (day) or eight (evening and weekend) weeks. Enrollment is now open! For more information and/or to register, visit www.miller-motte.edu/mmdi.
*Graduates must obtain a Class A CDL license to be eligible for in-field employment. Miller-Motte Driving Institute (MMDI) does not guarantee third-party licensure. Licensure requirements for taking and passing licensure examinations are not controlled by MMDI but by outside agencies and are subject to change by the agencies without notice to MMDI. Therefore, MMDI cannot guarantee that graduates will be eligible to take licensure examinations, regardless of their eligibility status upon enrollment.
