ARLINGTON, TX (SEPTEMBER 29, 2025) — Ancora Education, a leading workforce training and solutions provider, has announced its South Texas Vocational Technical Institute (STVT) campus in Arlington, Texas is adding to two new programs to the campus offerings: Diesel Heavy Truck Technician and Electrical.
STVT’s Electrical Program prepares students for an entry-level position in the residential and commercial electrical field. The program, a hybrid between classroom-style education and hands-on learning, is designed to prepare students to be a service technician capable of troubleshooting, servicing and repairing residential and commercial electrical systems, meeting the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) standards.
“Introducing the Electrical and Diesel Heavy Truck Technician programs marks an exciting step forward for STVT Arlington,” Kimberly Knox, President said. “These additions allow us to broaden our training options, continue helping students gain skills to thrive in essential trades, and provide our community with generations of educated tradespeople for Texas.”
The Diesel Heavy Truck Technician (DHTT) Program is designed to prepare the student for a career in the diesel medium-heavy truck technician industry. Classes combine theory with practical application of physical job skills. Students will be taught by industry-experienced instructors in a hands-on classroom lab, gaining practical experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting complex mechanical issues. All courses include the use of hand and specialty tools and emphasize equipment and shop safety procedures.
Diesel Heavy Truck Technician at STVT will cover a wide range of topics, including:
- Diesel Engines & Fuel Systems
- Brakes & Suspension, Steering
- Basic Electrical & Fundamentals of Heating, Ventilation & A/C
- Diesel Drivetrain and Chassis Electrical Systems
- Electronic Systems & Preventive Maintenance Inspections
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics notes there will be over 250,000 openings nationally for diesel service technicians and mechanics projected from 2024 to 2034. Many of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force.
During their education, students can sit for the EPA 609 A/C Technician certification test and upon program completion, graduates should be prepared to sit for the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) exams, and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Training Certification. They can seek entry-level employment as diesel mechanics, diesel technicians, oil change technicians, and A/C technicians.
The programs can be completed in as little as 10 months (Electrical) or 13 months (DHTT) and new terms will be starting every five weeks. For more information about the programs, visit: Arlington Campus. To speak with an admissions representative, call 682-284-0990.
